Re: Motorists should be penalised for going just 1mph over the speed limit, Britain’s road policing chief says
I am, or did come to the conclusion long ago, that those charged with making roads safer simply don't have a clue. Locally we have a bus stop just yards to the left of a junction from, Albert Rd, onto the main Wareham Rd through the village. Virtually opposite the bus stop is a junction on the oppos...

Re: Safety systems are there to be gamed...
awesome - so pedestrians will just walk across the road whenever they like, knowing that cars will stop - at present there is a balance - pedestrians take care and look etc. as they can't guarantee that the cars will stop - knowing that the cars will stop will change pedestrian habits, maybe over t...

Re: GBOL & DSG Gearbox
Someone earlier in the thread commented they thought their IAM observer wouldn't be keen on them using sport mode or keeping the revs up around 4k. I can't speak for IAM but at RoSPA that'd be positively encouraged so long as it wasn't needless (eg 5,000rpm in 1st around town). I always tell my ass...

Re: Why autonomous cars won't be able to drive properly...
Or how about dealing with emergency vehicles. How will they respond to an oncoming ambulance passing parked cars where the road is a bit narrow? I say this because my wifes car was parked in Salisbury this afternoon when it was side swiped by an ambulance on a blue light when the driver had to pull ...

UK satellites? Any idea what the G in GPS stands for? Anyhow, the G stands for "American satellite" (Positioning System). Could be switched off tomorrow . Although that's true (which most don't realise), it's unlikely to happen. In peacetime, it would require the populace to vote in an id...

Re: Telematics - feedback and findings
When you are on a country road with a 60mph limit, you shouldn’t be doing anywhere near 60mph If these are the types of people in charge of making decisions as to what constitutes safe driving then it's pretty worrying Exactly. What a load of utter tosh this report is. You'd deffinately fail a DVSA...

Re: Road Ahead Closed
My understanding is that it is an offence to pass a road closed sign unless for access only is added. Road closed would indicate that the road is closed beyond that point. Road ahead closed would indicate that the road is closed further ahead, so there for it's not illegal to pass this sign as it mi...

Re: Masters assessment
It doesn't matter that it is commonplace on the cars that driving schools use. What matters (or should matter) is what cars they are most likely to drive after passing the test. If they are taught in a car with too many nannies and assistants then that is not a true test of their ability to drive, ...

Re: Masters assessment
I'm prepared to bet that with suitable finesse, even a C1 can be got off the line without throttle... If the driver has enough finesse, then yes, any car could be moved without throttle but you wouldn't get very far very quickly. Something I get learners to practice is, with the car on a slight slo...
