Re: Differing rates of fuel evaporation
Having got my licence in 1974, I vaguely recall this whole issue was largely SEP (Somebody Else’s Problem). You just wound down the window and instructed the enthusiastic pump attendant to “fill it up please” ( or more usually, living on my student grant “a pound’s worth please”). It could be assume...

Re: Differing rates of fuel evaporation
I tend to believe that fully filling the tank will do no harm, but it’s important to fully insert the nozzle and stop the very first time the nozzle cuts out. It might be possible to dribble in a bit more fuel but that is probably not what the car designer intended, so I can well believe it’d cause ...

Re: Fuel saving tips
He said that the regen braking was so good that he had more range in the car when he got back than when he set off. There's a quarry in Switzerland that uses electric hail trucks. They're loaded at the top of a hill, emptied at the bottom. End the day with more charge. https://www.greencarreports.c...

Re: Fuel saving tips
Reads like it was written by someone who wanted to provide helpful advice but didn't wanted to be bothered with details. In my somewhat jaundiced view, that suggests they fit in well with most of the population. https://www.mynewsdesk.com/uk/iam-roadsmarts-media-centre/news/fuel-saving-tips-to-comb...

Re: Fuel saving tips
I didn’t actually know that electricity was measured in gallons? More seriously, strikes me that the biggest difference between theoretical and real-world range ICE vs EV is you’ll rarely want to exhaust any vehicle’s range. You’ll keep maybe 50 miles slack, in case when you get where you’re going t...

Re: Use of Indicator for Overtaking
I completely agree that a two second minimum signal, where required, is about right before changing lanes on a motorway. But there’s scope for misinterpretation as I see almost every time - a driver signals and then, after a second or two, assumes the god given right to change lanes… regardless of o...

Re: Oncoming car, wrong side of road
I thought we were about to have another offsiding debate. :D  Your jest made me think of a more serious link with off-siding, that I don’t remember seeing in previous discussions… …in the circumstance where a visitor to UK has lapsed into ‘subconsciously’ driving on the right, and he/she s...

Oncoming car, wrong side of road
Driving West along Beachy Head Rd this morning (I’m on holiday) I encountered an oncoming car heading towards me, on ‘my’ side of the road. It took a split second to convince myself it wasn’t just avoiding some hazard, and actually was driving on wrong side, which it was. I dealt with this by stoppi...

Re: Use of Indicator for Overtaking
I know that junction and that overtake was little short of barking mad, whether not indicating ... To be clear there were two overtakes… one passing me on the double whites, then a second when he passed two further cars as they pulled off at the lights. Absolutely barking mad, I agree. Can’t think ...

Re: Use of Indicator for Overtaking
This thread reminds me of a curious incident last week, heading south into Streatley on A329. As soon as I slowed for the 30 limit I could sense that the driver behind, in a beat up Golf IIRC, was disinclined to obey the limit. Sure enough, as soon as I passed the traffic calming chicane, still doin...
